About the Conference

The Faculty of Dentistry, Medicine and Pharmacy in partnership with the Sickle Cell Foundation of Alberta invites you to its 2018 conference (Re) imagining health: Sickle cell disease and thalassemia: an international biomedical-sociocultural conference to be held on 16 and 17 November 2018.

The conference is intended to bring together many voices to support and build an inclusive and equitable teaching and learning environment for medical staff, sickle cell patients, their families, first responders, the general public and other stakeholders. The event is aimed specifically at physicians, surgeons, researchers and other community practitioners committed to finding a cure for Sickle Cell Anemia and learning more about the ongoing effects of sickle cell trait.

Invitation to submit abstracts of papers 

« (Re) imagining Health » envisions a biomedical – sociocultural system that brings together multiple voices to support and build a framework for equitable teaching and learning for medical staff, patients with sickle cell disease, their families , first responders, the general public and other stakeholders.

We encourage physicians, surgeons, other practitioners, researchers, and graduate and undergraduate students to submit papers.

Please read the following instructions carefully before completing the submission form. form .

Lors de cette conférence « (Re) imagining Health » 2018, d’éminents chercheurs internationaux seront disponibles après leurs présentations pour des rencontres avec les membres des facultés locales de médecine, de médecine dentaire et de pharmacie. Nos études démontrent qu’il y a énormément de recherches en cours dans le domaine de la thérapie génique et sur d’autres médicaments anti-drépanocytaires. La SCFA souhaite donc offrir l’occasion d’en prendre connaissance aux chercheurs/universitaires des universités canadiennes, aux étudiants, au personnel médical et aux patients.

Did You Know?

The only known cure for Sickle Cell Disease is a stem cell transplant (or bone marrow transplant). Due to the significant risks involved in this procedure, including life-threatening complications, it is rarely an option for sickle cell patients.
