Dr. Odame is a Staff Physician in the Division of Hematology/Oncology and the Centre for Global Child Health at the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, Canada. He is Professor and Director of the combined Division of Adult and Pediatric Hematology in the Departments of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto.
He holds the Alexandra Yeo Chair in Hematology in the University of Toronto. Odame’s academic and clinical work is focused on patients with sickle cell disease, thalassemias and other hematological disorders. Odame was instrumental in the design and implementation of universal newborn screening for sickle cell disease in Ontario, Canada’s first. Currently, Odame is the Medical Director of the Global Sickle Cell Disease Network based at the Hospital for Sick Children that is committed to building enduring collaborations between clinicians and scientists worldwide to further SCD research and advance clinical care for patients, particularly in LMICs that shoulder the heaviest disease burden.
