Carl E. James, Ph.D., FRSC holds the Jean Augustine Chair in Education, Community & amp; Diaspora at York University, Toronto, where he is also the Affirmative Action, Equity & Inclusivity Officer. He teaches in the Faculty of Education and in the Graduate Programs in Sociology and Social Work. James’ research includes an examination of how to race, ethnicity, gender, class and citizenship / immigrant status intersects and affects accessible and equitable opportunities and outcomes in education, employment and healthcare for marginalized people. He advocates on education for change and obviates colour-blindness (seeking to move beyond the essentialist, generalizing, universalizing, and homogenizing representations and notions for the situation of racialized – and Black in particular – people in Canadian society. He holds an honorary doctorate from Uppsala University, Sweden for his contribution to social equity and anti-racism education. His forthcoming works include Color Matters: The Experiences, Education and Aspirations of Black Youth.Youth.
